The Convention celebrates 20 years!

2023 marks the 20th anniversary of UNESCO’s Convention of the Safeguarding of the Intangible Heritage. We are looking forward to celebrating this anniversary during the year.

The Convention was born in 2003 in order to safeguard and share knowledge of the living heritage of mankind.

“The Convention has been a vital tool to highlight the important role of intangible cultural heritage during the last 20 years.”, says Maria Nyström, senior advisor and responsible for coordinating the Convention in Sweden.

For 20 years, the Convention has contributed to global cooperation and supported measures to safeguard and promote living heritage. Sweden ratified the Convention in 2011, and is working actively to support communities and to raise awareness of the intangible heritage.
